For Tyria, fostering was never something she planned for years in advance. Instead, it began with faith, reflection, and a simple willingness to help children who needed support. Growing up as the youngest of five siblings, Tyria says she was raised in a home where kindness and compassion were part of everyday life. Those values stayed with her into adulthood and shaped the way she approaches parenting, caregiving, and community today.

“My parents raised us to be loving and kind to everyone we encounter,” Tyria shared. “I am a woman of faith and strongly believe that it takes a village to raise and mold every child into the best version of themselves.”

Today, Tyria is the proud parent of two biological children and one adopted child. Along the way, she has also opened her home to nearly nine foster children, offering stability, encouragement, and care during some of the most difficult moments in their young lives.

Tyria’s journey with La Causa began nearly fourteen years ago after a friend encouraged her to apply for a position at La Causa Daycare. At first, she hesitated. Because she is not bilingual, she worried she might not be the right fit for the organization. Still, something told her to move forward.

“I followed my intuition, took a leap of faith, and submitted my application,” she said. “That decision turned out to be a blessing.”

What started as a job eventually became something much deeper. Through her years at La Causa, Tyria built strong relationships with coworkers and families while seeing firsthand the importance of support systems for children and parents alike. Her path toward foster care began after a colleague approached her about providing respite care for foster children and encouraged her to consider fostering herself.

Tyria did not make the decision lightly. She spent time thinking, praying, and reflecting on whether she was truly being called to become a foster parent. During that period of reflection, she says she experienced a vivid dream that brought her a sense of peace and confirmation.

“I can honestly say that fostering is not always easy,” Tyria shared. “But it is incredibly rewarding to witness the growth and progression of every child placed in my care.”

Over the years, Tyria has seen children enter her home carrying fear, uncertainty, and emotional challenges. She believes one of the most important things a foster parent can provide is an environment where children feel safe enough to simply be themselves. In her home, that means creating consistency through routines, structure, patience, and unconditional love.

“I strive to help them navigate through life by providing structure, consistency, routines, and a whole lot of love,” she said.

One of the most meaningful parts of Tyria’s journey has been the experience of adopting her daughter. When her daughter first came into her care, she struggled with behavioral challenges and difficult circumstances. Watching her grow over time has become one of Tyria’s greatest blessings.

“Today, she is a high school graduate and is excelling in college,” Tyria said proudly. “Seeing her transformation has been one of the greatest reminders of the impact that love, patience, and support can have on a child’s life.”

For Tyria, fostering is not about perfection. It is about showing up consistently for children who need safety, guidance, and someone willing to believe in them. She says the most rewarding part of fostering has been witnessing the positive progression in children from the moment they enter her home to the day they transition out.

As the need for foster homes continues to grow, Tyria hopes more people will consider opening their hearts and homes to children in need of care. She acknowledges that fostering comes with challenges, but she also wants people to know that support systems and resources exist to help foster families along the way.

“There are many children currently in out-of-home care, and unfortunately, there are not enough foster homes available to meet their needs,” she shared. “I strongly encourage others to step in and be part of the village that can help change a child’s life, prepare them for a brighter future, and most importantly, provide a safe place where they can not only survive, but truly thrive.”

For Tyria, foster care has become more than a role. It is an extension of the values she was raised with: compassion, faith, community, and the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to feel safe, supported, and loved.

Every child deserves a safe place to grow, heal, and thrive.
