When Tanya thinks about her family’s connection to La Causa, she realizes it stretches across much of her life. As the Administrative Assistant at La Causa Charter School, she has spent the last 25 years supporting students and families. During that time, she has also watched her own children grow up within the La Causa community.
“My son Alexander has been attending La Causa Charter School since K4,” she shared. “He started at La Causa Early Education Center when he was 2 years old.” Today, Alex has completed eighth grade, while her younger son will continue his own journey at La Causa as he enters sixth grade this fall.
Looking back, Tanya remembers a child who genuinely loved learning. “Alex has always enjoyed school since he was little,” she said. “His love for reading and science was there from the beginning.” As the years passed, she watched those interests grow into new passions. “Watching him learn over the years and seeing his interests develop in Art, Robotics and now his love for Music and learning how to play the guitar” has been one of the greatest joys of being his mother.
Of course, no child’s journey is shaped alone. When Tanya reflects on Alex’s years at La Causa, she immediately thinks about the teachers and staff who walked alongside him. “The teachers that he has had since attending La Causa have all been wonderful,” she said. “We have been blessed to have had such positive experiences and support.” As both a parent and a staff member, she has seen firsthand the dedication educators bring to their work and the difference that support can make in a child’s life. “I’m grateful for everyone that has worked with Alex over the years and being able to see him become the student he is today.”
When asked what makes her most proud, Tanya doesn’t hesitate. “I’m so proud of Alex!” she said. “He has worked hard and remained focused during these middle school years.” She has watched him take on leadership responsibilities, complete his community service hours, and grow into a young man who understands the value of giving back. More than anything, she is proud of the person he has become.
That growth is especially clear when she compares the little boy who first walked through La Causa’s doors to the young man he is today. “Besides him now being taller than me,” she laughed, “Alex has built a foundation of friendships and has learned important life lessons.” Those friendships, experiences, and lessons have helped prepare him for whatever comes next.
The recent graduation ceremony gave Tanya a chance to reflect on just how quickly the years have passed. “I can’t believe how fast time has gone,” she said. “I remember his K5 graduation day, and now seeing him at his 8th grade graduation fills my heart with pride ❤️”
For families considering La Causa, Tanya’s advice comes from years of experience as both a parent and an employee. “La Causa is a place where your family feels welcomed,” she said. “Everyone is supportive and wants the best for your child’s success.”
Looking back on Alex’s journey—from a two-year-old in the Early Education Center to an eighth-grade graduate—it’s easy to see why those words mean so much.

Every child’s journey begins with a first step.
