Creating a Ripple of Hope: How One Business Is Helping Strengthen Milwaukee

Some businesses measure success by growth, revenue, or the number of clients they serve.
For Robb and Sandi Armstrong, success has always been measured a little differently. When they founded City Wide Facility Solutions of Southeastern Wisconsin in 2014, they envisioned a business that would do more than provide excellent service. They wanted it to create opportunities for others, strengthen their community, and leave Milwaukee better than they found it.
That vision became the foundation of their City Wide Ripple Initiative, a philosophy rooted in the belief that business can be a force for good.
“Our mission has always been to create a positive ripple effect by using our business to serve others and strengthen our community. At City Wide Facility Solutions, we believe business can be a force for good. As business owners, we recognize our responsibility not only to serve our clients with excellence, but also to invest in people, strengthen our community, and help create stories of transformation throughout our city.”
Those values naturally led the Armstrongs to La Causa.
As they became involved with the Guarding Dreams Gala, the Armstrongs gained a deeper understanding of La Causa’s impact on children and families throughout Milwaukee. What stood out wasn’t only the services La Causa provides, but the hope those services create for families facing difficult circumstances.
“I was moved not only by how their services provide a lifeline for those in crisis, but also by the dignity, hope, and opportunities they create for those they serve. La Causa has a profound impact on Milwaukee through the vital services they provide to children and families. By nurturing young people and strengthening families, they are helping shape the future leaders of our city.”
The more they learned about La Causa, the more they realized the organization’s mission reflected their own.
Supporting children. Strengthening families. Investing in the future of Milwaukee.
Those weren’t just ideas—they were values they had already built their business around.
“What inspired us most was how closely La Causa’s mission aligned with our own values. We are passionate about supporting organizations that are creating lasting impact right here in Milwaukee. We believe every child deserves to feel loved, valued, and hopeful, and supporting La Causa provides a meaningful way for us to live out those beliefs.”
That shared mission inspired one of City Wide’s most meaningful traditions: the Annual Holiday Gift Drive.
It began with a simple desire to make Christmas brighter for children served through La Causa’s Social Services programs. The first year, City Wide sponsored approximately 40 children. The next year, they invited clients, neighboring businesses, vendors, and friends to join them, believing that generosity grows when it’s shared.
They were right.
What started as one company’s effort has become a community tradition, providing more than 300 gifts each year to over 150 children. The drive has also expanded to include gift cards for foster families and gifts for youth and young adults in La Causa’s Social Services programs, ensuring even more people feel seen, valued, and remembered during the holidays.
For Sandi, however, the Holiday Gift Drive has never really been about the gifts.
“The Holiday Gift Drive was born out of a simple question: ‘How can we use the blessings we have received to bless others?’ My hope is that the program continues to grow and that every child or adult who receives a gift experiences something much deeper than the excitement of opening a present. I hope they feel seen. I hope they feel valued. And I hope they know that an entire community believes in them and cares about their future.”
That hope is what the Armstrongs call the ripple effect.
They’ve seen firsthand how one act of generosity inspires another, how one business encourages another to get involved, and how a community can come together to create lasting change for children and families.
“We have seen firsthand that when businesses, organizations, and individuals unite around a shared purpose, small acts of kindness can multiply into something far greater than any one person could accomplish alone. That is the power of the ripple effect—changing the story of our city, one person, one family, and one act of generosity at a time.”
It’s a lesson they hope more people will discover for themselves.
Supporting La Causa isn’t only about making a donation. It’s about becoming part of something bigger than yourself. Whether that means volunteering, attending an event, sponsoring a child during the holidays, or simply sharing the organization’s mission with others, every act of kindness has the potential to reach farther than we realize.
As Sandi put it best:
“Not everyone can do everything, but everyone can do something. No act of generosity is ever too small. Whether it’s making a donation, volunteering, attending an event, or sponsoring a child through the Annual Holiday Gift Drive, every act of kindness creates a ripple effect.”
And that’s exactly what the Armstrongs hope their story inspires.
