“I was 14 when I lost my mother, and it was a turning point. After running away and being in residential care, I was introduced to La Causa and then to Denise White. It felt like a new beginning.”

“Living with Denise was like having a beacon of light in a dark tunnel. The whole team at La Causa became a network of people I could trust. My whole life had been in and out of foster homes, but having a consistent team that truly cared made a difference.”
Denise’s unwavering support was crucial in helping Heavenly navigate her rebellious phase and see beyond immediate struggles. Heavenly noted:
“When I was living with Denise, I was rebellious and ran away a lot. But Denise and the La Causa team didn’t just give up on me. They were consistent and honest, reminding me of my potential and the consequences of my actions.”

“Other places just seemed to check in with you once a month and move on. But La Causa was different. They were consistent and proactive. They provided the resources I needed, like therapy and crisis stabilization, and they had real meetings to discuss my care.”
A Message to Future Foster Parents
Heavenly’s experience with Denise taught her valuable lessons about the impact of foster care. She has a clear message for future foster parents:
“Consistency is key. It’s not easy being a foster parent, especially with the challenges some youth face. But if you stick with it, you’re making a difference. Even if it seems small, your efforts matter. Look beyond stereotypes and give these kids a chance—they can achieve so much with the right support.”
