A New Beginning

In 2017, Tasha and her young children were looking for a fresh start when they moved to Milwaukee. “When I came to Milwaukee in 2017, I had my 2-year-old son and my almost 1-year-old daughter,” Tasha recalls. But their new beginning was quickly overshadowed by hardship when they found themselves without a home. “I didn’t know where we were going to go,” she remembers. The family ended up in a shelter, a low point that felt like a never-ending struggle. Yet, amid the chaos, La Causa emerged as a beacon of hope.

Finding a Lifeline

While at the shelter, a counselor introduced Tasha to La Causa. “I had never heard of La Causa before,” she admits. Desperate for help, she reached out and soon met Mr. Karl, a dedicated staff member. “They started helping me with my kids,” Tasha says, her voice filled with relief. “It was like a weight lifted off my shoulders.”

By early 2018, with La Causa’s support, Tasha secured an apartment on National Avenue. “It wasn’t just a place to stay,” she explains. “It was a chance to build a home for my kids.” Even though the challenges continued, La Causa remained a steadfast support. “Whenever I needed them, they were there,” Tasha reflects.

Facing Emergencies with Support

One of Tasha’s most frightening moments came when she ended up in the emergency room with dangerously low oxygen levels. “I didn’t know what was going to happen to me,” she recalls. “But more than anything, I was worried about who would take care of my kids.” Once again, La Causa stepped in, ensuring her children were safe and cared for. “Between Mr. Karl and my children’s school, they made sure my kids were okay,” Tasha says, her gratitude evident. “I thank God for La Causa. I’m glad they exist… They say it takes a village to raise a child; they are my village.”

Building Trust and Stability

For Tasha, La Causa has become more than just a service provider; they are a trusted support network. “It’s hard to trust people with your kids,” she admits. “But I learned to trust them because they genuinely care.” Her children have thrived, eagerly anticipating their time at La Causa. “Every time we leave, they’re asking, ‘Mama, when can we go back?’” Tasha says with a smile. “That’s when I knew I had found something special.”

Gratitude and Reflection

Looking back, Tasha is profoundly grateful for La Causa’s unwavering support. “My children are happy, and that’s all that matters to me,” she says, her voice thick with emotion. “La Causa has done more for my family than I ever could have imagined.” Knowing her children are in safe, loving hands has been a tremendous relief. “I don’t know where we’d be without La Causa,” she admits. “They’ve been there for us more than anyone else in the whole seven years I’ve been here. I’m just so thankful.”
